Easter Seals of Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana Counties has completed its 57th year of serving children and adults in the community.  Accredited by the Rehabilitation Accreditation Commission (CARF) in the area of outpatient medical rehab services and adult day services, a commitment has been made to measure clinical outcomes for the population served.  This data is used to continuously improve the quality of services, identify needs of those served and provide information relevant to the cost and length of services.

Keeping with our mission, to help persons with disabilities or special needs live with equality, dignity and independence, Easter Seals strives to utilize its resources in the most efficient manner possible.  In fiscal year 2008, the projected budget was just over $4 million.  Of that 84% was used for program services and public health education and approximately 99% of that budget remains in the Tri-County area.  Client visits for 2008 were over 80,000.

Other highlights of fiscal year 2008 are as follows:

  • The Ohio Department of Transportation competitive bid to purchase a van was approved.
  • Easter Seals opened a day hab program for young adults with autism spectrum disorders at the Boardman location. Funding is provided by Mahoning County MRDD and Waiver.
  • Expansion of service through a collaborative agreement with MYCAP and Headstart services to children. Forty-eight new slots were opened for classroom children.
  • Easter Seals signed an agreement with MYCAP to become an Early Learning Imitative (ELI) provider. This represents new funding for the preschool classrooms which helps offset the reduction in funding that occurred several years ago.
  • Easter Seals was awarded a federal appropriation of $189,677 to purchase capital equipment.
  • The Angels of Easter Seals celebrated 31 years of support to Easter Seals. A total of $113,200 was raised this year, bringing the total raised by the Angels to over $2.4 million.

Easter Seals of Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana Counties looks forward to serving the community in the coming years, filled with challenges and opportunities.  Programs and services are made possible through the support and cooperation of the community and the families served.
